[00:00:00] Trist: We need some rugged raw Scotland. Someone nicely put an order for some sunshine. Which is beautiful.
[00:00:11] Trist: I didn't think I'd be wearing shorts in Scotland. Yeah, real turn-up for the books. Turns out end of summer come to Scotland. You'll get a summer. What a time to be alive.
Picture of Loch Skeen
[00:00:22] Trist: What a lovely place to be talking to you all.
[00:00:25] Trist: It is just stunning. Welcome back folks we are at Grey Mare’s Tail. An absolute favourite of ours. Ask Kez to marry me here last year. She said yes thankfully.
Engagement picture
[00:00:34] Trist: Almost a year later we're back here. Very different weather conditions this year. Sweating quite a bit. Last year it was freezing cold, weird.
Let’s get Hiking
[00:00:42] Trist: This is just a Monday. We’ve been working all morning. So we thought let's treat ourselves with a, what is it a 2.8-mile walk? Up the side of a hill, to a pretty beautiful Loch.
Where is Grey Mare’s Tail
[00:00:51] Trist: Grey Mares Tale is in the south of Scotland. About 10 miles from Moffatt.
Where’s Loch Skeen
[00:00:58] Trist: Up the top here is Loch Skeen and that fills up from the hills and mountains, the countryside around. That flows into here and then that goes off to Grey Mares Tail. Which is a 60-meter drop waterfall. We have such beautiful scenery. I'm absolutely blown away. Let's go from that first bit of the walk which when it's windy, when we did it last time it's uh. It's a bit on top. It's quite close to the edge. Then if you tackle that bit. Which doesn't take that long and you get up here. This is just flat incredible you're walking next to this, little stream. I think they're called Burns here. I can't explain to you, how lovely this is.
Where’s the Loch?
[00:01:40] Trist: It's still quite a bit of a walk to the old Loch. Which the first time, I didn't look at. I just thought you got to the top of the waterfall there it was. But no. I think it's a two 2.8-mile walk there and back. Have a look at AllTrails it'll tell you.
Trist’s Bad Planning
[00:01:55] Trist: Well I thought coming to Scotland as we have done we came in May a couple of years ago it was snowing. We came into September. It felt like winter was here. Come at the beginning of September. It turns out after a really crappy summer and absolute blue skies are screaming at us.
[00:02:16] Kez: Trist is also obsessed with sunlight, warm weather, sunshine. So if you see like the tiniest glimpse of it won't be sunny, then it's like Doomsday winter.
Pack for Winter when it’s Summer
[00:02:28] Trist: I've got thermals with me. Hats and gloves. So wearing shorts, mental.
Lovely People
[00:02:33] Trist: We met a couple of people on this walk. All very lovely, everyone seems to be lovely on a walk. I mean why wouldn't you be lovely on a walk? I can't really do any of this justice, like how vast and open this all it is. Come on Frank.
Picture of Frank
[00:02:47] Trist: We've got views to be seeing buddy. But yeah oh we just love Scotland, don't we. It's such a dramatically incredible place. Which is ever-changing you know.
Midge Update
[00:02:57] Trist: I don't think we've left it late enough in the year. For all the midges to die and go away. If you're watching this give us some advice on where to go where there's midges. I've read it's more the south east coast maybe areas away from water. Which seems a shame because I love Glen or we love Glencoe, Glen Etive and lots of places like that. But looking at Midge map. Don't know whether anyone's seen if you go to I think it's like smidge.com. You can look at their midgey map and it gives you from a zero to five rating. Of where the midges are. Which is quite useful. Where we're hanging out it's like a one. Where we want to go to five. Uh yeah so we might recheck our plans and uh stick to the East Coast and places that
[03:37:00] Trist: aren't so midgified. But yeah if you're watching this and you've got any recommendations uh let us know below or just put a laughing face if you like you idiots. Of course, the midges in Scotland when it's warm, put a laughing face. That'd be fun.
Frank Water
[00:03:52] Trist: They do say about keeping French Bulldogs away from cold water if they’re bit warm because they'll give themselves shock. But this guy seemingly does love a bit of water. Loves a Loch. I don't know
[00:04:02] Kez: Also he’s not your average French Bulldog.
[00:04:03] Trist: no no he's not is he yeah yeah yeah yeah. Yeah when we look to get Frank weird fun fact. Kez was like oh French Bulldogs, supposedly apartment dogs. Don’t really need a huge amount of walking, about 20 minutes a day. Because they are so small with tiny little legs.
[00:04:19] Trist: Yeah so this guy's walking to the Loch and back. We don't make him do these walks but he will not let us not walk him a lot of these places. He loves it doesn’t he. Absolute Trooper.
Finally at the Loch
[00:04:34] Trist: It’s just over here the Loch. Ah the last time we were here, ah it’s amazing. I don't even know what I'm talking quietly I feel like I should because it's so quiet here oh. You wait, you wait till we get there. oh absolutely buzzing. Put your feet in there.
Oh mate this is just. Welcome to Scotland. Can you believe it. This is so nice. There's some footpaths around here. Never done those. But this is incredible enough
Reaction Time
[00:05:31] Trist: How'd you feel about uh wow.
[00:05:34] Kez: Yeah blown away like it's the second time isn't it we've been up to the top there and it's just oh it's literally breathtaking. It really really is I probably need to sound more enthused. But sometimes you know when.
[00:05:47] Trist: You’re just in awe aren’t you?
[00:05:49] Kez: Yeah when you're up there you sort of feel like you should whisper.
[00:05:51] Trist: yeah yeah I was whispering to the camera earlier and realized it was only me and you that were hear
[00:05:57] Kez: Yeah because it's just so peaceful to disrupt that peace is and it's just yeah it's so unspoiled by man. It’s. Oh yeah.
[00:06:05] Trist: Oh it's like Nature's Garden we're walking around. It is incredible the walk up here and then the walk back. Is just as incredible. Because you kind of see everything from a different angle.
[00:06:16] Kez: Yeah
[00:06:19 Trist: It's just beautiful. I can’t really express it.
[00:06:21] Kez: When you're walking up you're walking up and so it's really exhausting. When you're walking down yeah you just get to enjoy it.
[00:06:28] Trist: Get yourself here. Honestly, it is absolutely stunning here.
[00:07:17] Trist: Oh what’s around here. I don’t think. Car park around there. You can walk further up there but couldn’t be arsed. So I think here and we'll go around here is where I'll get the Drone up.
Drone shot
[00:08:20] Trist: So that's it for this episode in it Kez.
[00:08:22] Kez: It is
[00:08:24] Trist: We’re all done here at Grey Mares Tail. But if you enjoyed that. We've got a lot more adventures coming up on our Scotland Series. So don't forget to
[00:08:31] Kez: Like, subscribe, hit the Bell notification button.
[00:08:33]Trist: So you see when our next episode is going to be coming out and where we're headed off to well literally right now. If possible I think it might be more tranquil in some ways than this place. But tune in next week to find out. Bye for now guys.
