Travelling the NC500 in low seasons can be amazing as there are far less people travelling the NC500. That does mean that not all the campsites are not open all year round. We’ve selected a few campsite on the NC500 that are open all year round.
Getting rid of your grey and black waste can be a bit tricky on the NC500. One thing to note is public toilets are far more available in Scotland than in England. That does not mean that you can get rid of your black waste in these. We’ve seen signs asking people not to empty their waste in toilets. This is due to a number of reasons, one being the toilet systems can’t take this kind of waste and it actually can ruin the system. Another reason to dispose of your waste correctly as we fear more people doing it incorrectly will lead to places being shut down. Here’s a list of places you can dispose of your chemical waste at.
Free for staying guests, charge applies for passing visitors:
It really depends on what time of year and where you’re looking to stay. During peak season you can find some campsites will fill up. Whereas during lower peak times it will be easier to find a site. So if it’s playing on your mind and you’re thinking do I need to book campsites on NC500 make sure you book ahead to save any hassle. I always find if you can call ahead you can get the lay of the land.
There is no shortage of campsites on the NC500. All at different price levels and catering for different needs. A number of the campsites on the NC500 are close to beaches and water. Then there are some that are closer to towns and other amenities. As we stay at more campsites on the NC500 we will update this guide and share more of the best campsites on the NC500.
To be exact 'Wild Camping' under the Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003 is only allowed when camping by foot, bike or other non-motorised transport. This doesn’t include motorised vehicles such as motorhomes and campervans. If you can please stay in a campsite on route. There has also been tension over the years of sum campervans and motorhome owners not respecting the space in and around NC500. This is something we personally have seen. It’s no wonder park ups get shut down and locals get angry. Work together with people, leave no trace and respect the land and locals and we can all work to get along better.
