Introduction

[00:00:00] Kez: Are you ready Eddie.

[00:00:03] Kez: Hello and welcome back for another episode of Trist & Kez. We are still in Scotland and we are just about to leave Glencoe. So we are going to do that and then we shall pick you up and tell you the five Reasons why you're going to want to Van life in Scotland.

An aerial view of Scotland with mountains in the background.

[00:00:31] Kez: Wait until you see where we have brought you. I know Frank it's pretty special we'll take you now. Moving in a small space, not helpful when you have a ginormous coat. In a small van either. Hey Murphy, take you later. Just talking to the cat in case you thought I got mad.

[00:00:53] Kez: Okay see you later

[00:00:56] Trist: Bye

[00:00:57] Kez: Bye

[00:00:59] Trist: Right I better get ready. Time for me to put on my million layers. I feel like I’m going skiing.

A white van is driving down a road with mountains in the background.

[00:01:08] Trist: Let me tell you, this, park up. It's amazing. But we're going to show you it in two ticks. We came here in 2021 one. Had snow then (in May) got snow now (in January) weird. But yeah it's absolutely stunning here. No one else is here. Why would they be? It's the middle of January it's freezing but it's a beautiful sunny day. Which means we can get lots of nice footage. Cool I sound really old. Take you down the beach in a bit Murph. Last layer on. Woo and hey pristo. Right let's take you outside

[00:01:42] Kez: So we have arrived. I think I've already told you that, I think I've told you about four times that we've arrived. But we've left Glencoe and we have come to this epic epic Park up. I mean what a spot.

An aerial view of a Cuil Bay with mountains in the background.

[00:01:55] Kez: It's so interesting this spot did used to be on park4night. Which seems to have been taken off. Which is why it's super handy to make sure that you're using a multitude of apps. Because Trist found it on Search for Sites didn't you.

[00:02:06] Trist: I did.

[00:02:07] Kez: We've headed down. We are the only van. To be fair we're the only people here. Which kind of leads us onto the theme of the video. Five reasons why Scotland is epic for Van life.

[00:02:22] Trist: Why is that Kez.

[00:02:23] Kez: uh well winter van life specifically I should say. There's no one bloody here. I mean to be fair we've been in the summer. Well I say summer. We've been in May and we've been in September. And in comparison to England it's it is quiet. But winter it's even quieter.

[00:02:42] Trist: Yeah it's pretty much dead isn't it.

[00:02:44] Kez: so peaceful.

[00:02:45] Trist: oh people here in Vans but few and far between.

[00:02:48] Kez: But yeah the reasons for Van life being so epic. I mean if you've been following along on our Instagram. Then uh well we've only been here what? Six, seven days now and I think we've seen all five reasons of why winter van life in Scotland is amazing. I mean where do you start. Facilities are incredible. Public showers I mean I think we found 96 public showers.

[00:03:12] Trist: I can't remember the exact number but head. Head to our website www.tristandkez.com. And then you'll find our Public Showers in Scotland.

[00:03:22] Kez: We did a whole, put a whole list together because it is an absolute game changer, when you're in Scotland in a van. There are showers everywhere and uh again if you followed our last video you know Glencoe Ski Resort have one that's super hot. Facilities, loads of them anything you want you've got it here. Secondly has got to be the wildlife isn't it.

[00:03:42] Trist: Yeah cue clip.

[00:03:46] Kez: Yeah yeah here's the overlay. I mean the wildlife is just incredible. Absolutely incredible.

[00:03:51 ]Trist: What have we seen in Scotland Kez.

[00:03:55] Kez: Deers, stags, goats, seals, birds of prey, Highland cows of course.

[00:03:59] Trist: We had the uh what' do you call it like the mandatory trip to King's House Hotel and what three days in a row we saw did yeah Stags.

[00:04:11] Kez: Stags and what's interesting we've been coming to Scotland for six years now and not once have we been lucky enough to spot the Stags at King's house. So I don't know if it's a winter thing. Not sure, maybe drop in the comments if you've seen it in the summer.

[00:04:27] Trist: We got home run though didn't we.

[00:04:29] Kez: We did and what else so we've said the facilities we've said the wildlife. I mean the views that just that they just speak for themselves. If you want mountains. If you want beaches. If you want lochs. It's here. I mean every Park up has just been breathtaking, hasn't it.

[00:04:48] Trist: Some sheep.

[00:04:49] Kez: Oh there is some sheep just hanging out in the woods but every spot is just yeah it's absolutely breathtaking. You don't have to worry about boring car parks in Scotland, trust me. And the roads are just beautiful. I don't know if anyone's van lifed in Cornwall or Wales. But the roads are not really set up for driving. There's a lot of yeah. Basically in Scotland the roads are wide. Plenty of passing places isn't there.

[00:05:22] Trist: Oh yeah.

[00:05:22] Kez: That's the game changer. Because you can you know pull over and let traffic go past if you're going a bit too slow. Which Gertie sometimes does and it's just yeah there it it makes them less bum clenchy to drive. I mean if you driven the roads in Cornwall in a van you'll understand. So yeah the roads, I mean the A82 here especially. We harp on about it all the time don't we but it's just a road that blows your mind. I mean it blows our minds.

[00:05:50] Trist: Oh yeah and it stretches for Miles. I don't know how many miles. We'll pop that below but um if you're thinking of coming this winter to Scotland and you're concerned by the state of the roads. You can go on uh Google. Just type in what is it Scotland gritters or snowplows and there's a live tracker but what you'll see and we spoke to a chap in um a park up yesterday. He was kind of saying, if you stick near like the a82 and major roads like that they're always gritted and snow ploud, like fairly regularly and um whatnot so yeah well.

[00:06:17] Kez: And also what's interesting is all the gritters have quite cool names. Yeah so that makes it quite entertaining. Check them out and you'll see what we mean. But yeah and I think all those four points bring us on to the fifth best thing, about van life in Scotland is the attitude towards it it's just it's beautiful. You're encouraged to enjoy nature. You're encouraged to look after nature and respect it. But to just get out and walk and explore and

[00:06:50] Trist: I have a I have a point here.

[00:06:51] Kez: Oh do you.

[00:06:52] Trist: So this is a little Point I can make here whereby what is it most to Scotland a fairly um happy and encompassing of Motorhomers and Van Life. But it's that case of you know like leave no Trace type thing. Look even to the point there's a little sign here politely asking you not to use the wilderness as a toilet. So what I'm getting at is they haven't shut this area down, do you know what I mean.

[00:07:23] Kez: I think that's the whole point is the expectation here of Van life is different. They understand that most people just want to get out and enjoy nature and explore, and there's a mutual respect, and I think in Scotland they know you know that there's a a mutual respect both ways type thing. That doesn't really make much sense what I mean B

but.

[00:07:44] Trist: don't **** on their doorstep and they're happy for you to stay wherever you like to a degree. So yeah just be mindful it's you know what I mean the outdoor space is for us all to enjoy so don't be a **** and pick up after yourself and enjoy Scotland. Ah we’ll cobble something of that together.

[00:08:04] Kez: Of course we will. But yeah so those are the five reasons why van life in Scotland is just out of this world if you haven't been we cannot recommend it enough. If you have been before what's your favourite thing about Scotland? Why should others come?

[00:08:21] Trist: What are we missing?

[00:08:22] Kez: Yeah what are we missing I mean a whole a whole list of things most probably. But yeah let this be your sign if you haven't been. Get behind the wheel fuel up and head this way because yeah you won't be disappointed.

[00:08:35] Trist: It's like nothing else.

[00:08:37] Kez: It really isn’t. But I think we're going to finish off this walk with Frank we shall share with you some beautiful shots of this park up. And so we hope you have enjoyed this week's episode we are off to explore before we lose lose the sun behind a mountain, which is a pretty cool thing to say. We hope this has been of some value.
